Our primary focus is on the family. Dr. Wright was introduced to autism as a teenager in 1965 with the birth of his half-brother, Ben. Developmental disabilities can impact four generations in a family. Grandparents and sometimes great-grandparents, when they are available, can offer some respite. The parents are affected, and tragically, too often, divorce further damages the family. The next generation is the affected child and their siblings. The fourth generation is the children of the siblings. Ben is now 60 years old. The consistent support for him has been our grandmother (Gen 1), until her death. Our mother (Gen 2), until her death. My sister and me (Gen 3), and now my sister's oldest daughter (Gen 4),
Today, there are 2.7 million people on the spectrum who were raised in an average household of 3.15 people. Roughly estimated, 5,805,000 family members face a very different day every day. Our focus is the family.
Our Approach
Threshold, Inc., is a Florida non-profit corporation established in 1978 to provide behavioral support and training for children on the autism spectrum. For more than 40 years, we operated a residential treatment and training center. Today, our focus is on consulting agencies, schools, and families on autism and related support programs.
